There’s something quietly magical about turning the smallest, most overlooked scraps into something beautiful — and in this workshop, you’ll learn exactly how to do just that.
In this Till Roll Quilting workshop, you’ll discover a liberating scrap quilting technique where leftover fabric pieces are stitched directly onto a paper till roll as a foundation. As the roll feeds steadily through your sewing machine, you’ll learn how to layer, overlap, and join scraps in an intuitive, flowing way. We’ll explore how to balance colour and texture, how to build interesting compositions without a fixed pattern, and how to work confidently without precise measuring or rigid rules.
By the end of the session, you’ll gain:
A practical, repeatable technique for using even the smallest fabric remnants
Greater confidence in improvisational piecing
A fresh perspective on colour placement and scrap management
Finished strips that are ready to develop into larger projects
Scrap quilting itself has a long and meaningful history. For generations, quilters saved every usable fragment of cloth — piecing together worn garments, dressmaking remnants, and cherished fabrics from everyday life. These quilts were born of thrift, necessity, and creativity, but they also became storytellers. Each scrap carried memory and meaning. Till Roll Quilting carries that same spirit of resourcefulness into a contemporary setting, showing us how sustainability and artistic freedom can go hand in hand.
This workshop is designed to be welcoming whether you’re completely new to quilting or already experienced at the sewing machine. You’ll leave not only with unique quilted pieces, but with practical skills, renewed creative energy, and a technique you can return to again and again.
I’m keen to collaborate with groups, studios, guilds, and community spaces to set up dedicated Till Roll machine sewing workshops. If you’re interested in working together to host a session, I would love to connect and explore how we can bring this creative, sustainable technique to your community.
